What's "fair"?

So I'm going to use this opportunity to gripe a bit.  Feel free to skip over this blogpost if you'd like.  In my effort to de-junk and de-clutter my bookshelf, I decided to take some books in like-new condition to a local bookstore called Fair's Fair. They are 2011.  There were 5 or 6 titles including Destined by P.C. and Kristin Cast and Delirium by Lauren Oliver.  All were hardcover.  They offered me $6 cash.  Really?  That's it?  She said that because they were 2011 titles, the softcover versions would be coming out and it would be hard to sell them.  Personally, I didn't feel that Fair's Fair was being fair.

OK, so I understand that it's a business and you need to buy for less than you sell for but this is crazy.  So my thinking is this...what would you be willing to pay for recent hardcover YA titles from a fellow blogger?  Is it worthwhile to sell them online?  I'm thinking Kijiji or Craigslist.  What do you do with books that you weed from your bookshelf?

On a side note, for those of you who are looking to ADD to your collection, you might want to check out Chapters bargain book section.  I was browsing today and wanted to share these great buys (no, I didn't purchase anything....its easy to shop when you leave your debit card in the car)

All are hardcover
Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare - $4.99
Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick - $4.99
Lies by Michael Grant - $5.99
Wither by Lauren DeStefano - $4.99
Vampire Academy - $6.99

Let me know if you pick any of these up. GREAT buys!!!

  1. Wait - $6.00 each or for all because $6 for all sounds very unfair. I'd have taken $10 likely but not $6.

  2. What's Chapters?

Anyways, only $6? Are they crazy? I would pay $6 a piece for them because I would prefer to have hardcovers on my shelf (no bent covers/spines to worry about). Honestly, if they are still less expensive than the paperback I would buy them.

I should really try leaving my debit car in the car next time I try to go shopping, in-store and online.
