Waiting on Wednesday - Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine,  that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating or books that are in our TBR pile.  This week’s “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is

Summary (by Goodreads)

Every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown.

If only it was that simple. Katharine is unable to tolerate the weakest poison, and Arsinoe, no matter how hard she tries, can’t make even a weed grow. The two queens have been shamefully faking their powers, taking care to keep each other, the island, and their powerful sister Mirabella none the wiser. But with alliances being formed, betrayals taking shape, and ruthless revenge haunting the queens’ every move, one thing is certain: the last queen standing might not be the strongest…but she may be the darkest.

Kendare Blake is a fabulous writer. I was so happy with the Anna series that I sent her a very excited reader email as soon as I was finished to tell her how much I enjoyed her series and she actually wrote me back!!  I like how she mixed YA and horror together (similar to Gretchen McNeil).  Even though I haven't started the Goddess War series, I am going to skip on to Three Dark Crowns this fall so we can get to know one another all over again. :)

  1. I'm so excited for this book! I feel like we've been waiting forever for it, but I am so glad it will be out soon. :) The premise is so intriguing, and even though I haven't read anything by Kendare Blake, I have heard nothing but positive things about her writing, so I have high hopes!

    1. "I’ve only just started and I’ve read quite a few “How to start a blog” posts – but I particularly like what you say towards the end about doing things differently. That was initial gut feeling, finding a USP rather than trying to compete in an overcrowded space, until I started reading about having to blog prolifically to start with etc. I like your approach better.
You’re also the only person who specifically mentioned getting a logo – something that I’d only had loose ideas about, but will definitely go about getting this now.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
