Friday Book Blogger Hop - September 3, 2010

Book Blogger Hop

In the spirit of the Twitter Friday Follow, the Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and find new book-related blogs that we may be missing out on! This weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books! It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs that they may not know existed!

Each week, participating blogs are asked questions to post and answer on their websites.

This week’s question –

Do you judge a book by it’s cover?

Yes, we both do.  However, the first impression is the one that will get readers to purchase the book.  Most of the time this is visual appeal (or a really good review).  If a book has an interesting looking cover, I am more likely to pick it up and read the summary.  How about you?  Do you also judge a book by it's cover?

Make yourself at home, take a look around our blog and let us know what you think in the comments section. We would love to hear what you have to say about our posts. Since there are two of us running the show, we always have a variety of titles and events we are commenting on.

BTW, have you seen our COZY UP WITH A GOOD BOOK contest? Today is your last chance to enter! Until midnight EDT tonight (Friday Sept 3), you can fill out a ballot to win. We’re giving away a copy of Wings by Aprilynne Pike and a pair of hand-knit socks. The contest is open to anyone in the USA and Canada. Please remember to enter your links for any extra entries! You can enter here.

  1. Pretty, shiny covers can grab my attention pretty quickly, but they aren't enough to make me buy a book. A good cover can get me to take a closer look, but it's what's inside that gets me to the check out line with the book in my hand. Here from the Hop!

  2. While covers are nice, the first thing I look at is the author's name. Next I look at the book blurb. I would think that a nice cover would encourage me to pick up a book in a bookstore bur I do most of my book buying online. Just hopping by to say hello! Happy reading!

  3. You're right Christinabean, I do judge by the cover, but I'm more likely not to buy/read a book with a bad cover - I'm sorry, I know it's terrible but I can't help myself. I'm still trying to get past the cover of 'Shiver' and I've brought it home 4 times now (although everyone else seems to love it). I'm going to try listening to it and see if that makes a difference. But I agree with you Jennifer, a good cover will make me pick up the book and read the blurb.

  4. Hi :) I'm the same. I'm more likely to pick a book up if the book cover catches my eyes by it's colors and design
Hope you enjoy your weekend !!! Here's my Hop

  5. Just stopped by for the hop. I'm guilty of judging books by their cover. I'm also a new follower. I hope you have a great weekend!!
    A Book Obsession..

Make sure to check out my 100 followers contest here if you haven't entered! Ends 9/6

  6. It's hard not to sometimes, but since I don't shop in brick and mortar stores so much now I don't do it as often. It's usually a great review I read on all these great book blogs that get a book added to my TBR pile =)

I'm stopping by on the hop! You've got a great site here! Happy Friday =)

    The Bookish Type

  7. Yep, I do too! Well, if I'm browsing books, I'm likely to pick up and check out the books with covers that appeal to me. The book description has to sound good, though, or I'm not sold on it.

    A Tapestry of Words

  8. I will browse through book and look at the cover, but the Title really has to jump out at me are I may not pick it up. I am big on romance and fiction.

  9. Yes, unfortunately I do judge a book by its cover. :)

First-time visitor. Love your blog name.
