Sucker Punch

Review:

So instead of doing a book review today, I decided to do a movie review. Curlypow and I went to see Sucker Punch last night. I'm not sure if I entirely understood the story but it sure was an exciting adventure. Very entertaining. It had everything the girls love - strong female characters who can do just about anything and then some sexily, barely dressed young women in tight formfitting outfits with corsets, nylons, fishnets and stayups for the guys.

We both picked out some interesting scenes in the movie. Here's our theory - when Babydoll started dancing, she created a world that kept men fascinated and mesmerized. So here are some of the worlds - the first one reminded us of Mortal Kombat. The second world reminded us of a warzone that had been steampunked with a character from Hellboy. The third world well, that was easy. It was Lord of the Rings with Orcs! And dragons...(hmm...can't think of a movie for that one yet....Reign of Fire?). Next is a high speed futuristic train (Tron) filled with I-robot extras.

So like I said before, I'm not sure if I can figure out the story but we had fun trying to interpret the movie and picking out the things that keep the women entertained and the scenes that captivate men. Probably not something that I would purchase on DVD but a fun one to watch. What did you think of the movie?

Curlypow here - basically 95% of the movie is being interpreted by Babydoll's imagination - this is her way of dealing with the intolerable situation she has been placed in, and allowing her to succeed in getting the things she needs to escape. The action is a bizarre combination of Samurai swords, steampunk World War I and modern army techniques, with orcs and dragons thrown in for good measure. With strong, but browbeaten girls and stereotypical bad guys it was an interesting if somewhat confusing movie. Sadly, on a Saturday night, there were only about 12 people in the theatre. In the end I have to agree with Christinabean - I enjoyed it, but not enough to add it to my video collection.

  1. HA! I just posted my review of Sucker Punch this morning too. Check it out if you get a chance? It was pretty simple really the story of what happens when she dances, because it's all about imagination and using it to turn a bad situation into something else. Like the Dr says at the beginning: "What are you imagining right now? That place can be as real as anything." I thought the message was great even though the plot and the characters was lacking. And it LOOKEd amazing didn't it? :)

  2. Yeah, I just saw that as well. I thought that it was more eye candy than plot! Amazing action scenes. I really enjoyed it for that reason :)
