Curlypow has graciously given me WAY too much time to write this review and I feel like I'm STUCK!! Reading this last book was a blessing and a curse to read. I was so happy to see the story continue but fels to sad to say goodbye to these characters. How do you say goodbye to your favourite all time series? Seriously? Except to start with - I LOVED IT!!
City of Heavenly Fire was similar to the last Harry Potter book. We waved on our heroes and watched some of them fall. We cried when they failed and cheered when they succeeded. And always, there was a time to say goodbye and wish them well on their journey. All in all, Cassandra Clare did a brilliant job in tying all of the loose ends in the story together and wrapping things up so that her audience could sit back with a sigh of reader satisfaction. This is one of the many reasons why The Mortal Instruments tops my list as the #1 series on my shelf. I cannot go through the scenes with you or the story without revealing something disastrous. It all seemed important and was all integral in bringing The Mortal Instruments together in its entirety. In order to get the full understanding of Book #6, I went back and re-read each book leading up to it so it was fresh in my mind. I would recommend you do the same as there were many things to re-visit which I had forgotten. Keep the story fresh and alive before you dive into this one. It will take some time but is WELL worth the re-read.
On a side note, if you haven't read the Clockwork series prior to The Mortal Instruments (6 book series), I would highly recommend it. Clare does a wonderful job of crossing the generations of Shadowhunters and integrating the lives of Magnus Bane, Brother Jeremiah, Tessa Gray.
